Ways to help bats:
*Don't use pesticides; they poison the foods that bats rely on, and the bats consume the poisoned food.
*Don't use glue-traps or fly-strips. Bats and other animals, including birds, are often caught in them. The snared animals suffer a long, painful death. There are many humane alternatives for rodent/insect control.
*Keep pet cats indoors. Every year, free-roaming cats take a huge toll on birds and small mammals, including bats.
*Plant a garden of native species flowers and vegetables.
Educational Programs:
Winghand offers educational programs for people of all ages. My PowerPoint presentations are lively, informative and fun.
"Winged Wonders" is designed for teens and adults. It is an overview of the world's bats from their prehistoric beginning to present times, the persistent myths and misconceptions they still face, their struggle for survival, and important facts about bats, with an emphasis on our local species.
Meet a Bat Ambassador! I have a USDA permit which allows me to keep non-releasable bats for educational purposes. You have the option to meet one of my winged assistants during the program.
"Batty for Bats" is designed for young teens and tweens. It is a modified version of "Winged Wonders."
"Bats for Kids" is for ages 3 and up. It is a fun PowerPoint program featuring rhyming, animated bats. It is very informative as well as fun! People of all ages love it!
If you are interested in scheduling a program, please see my contact page. Thank you.
